Enjoy The Ride: Mark McMorris – Inspires Adventure

Snowboarding has been my favourite Winter Olympic 2018 sport and it reminded me very much of my time in Whistler! Canadian Snowboarder, Mark McMorris, is not only an exceptionally talented athlete but is also a truly inspirational individual! His story is beyond belief and I think everyone can learn a lesson or two about chasing your dreams.

Mark McMorris’s Story

With 2 Olympic medals and 15 X Games medals to his name, it’s safe to say Mark is successful at what he does: freestyle snowboarding. He makes it look effortless and is thrilling to watch! (You can take a look at Mark in Action below.)

If I told you, Mark almost died 11 months ago; would you believe me? A snowboarding accident left him with 17 broken bones, a ruptured spleen and a broken jaw.

What were the chances of Mark ever snowboarding again let alone competing professionally after those injuries? Just think of the mental and physical strength. Unimaginable. His whole world was turned upside down and despite this he remained positive throughout and was determined to make it to the Olympics.

It’s pretty incredible, that not only Mark had the courage to get back on a board but to also be able to perform at a competitive standard. It is no coincidence that he is where he is today, it is the result of: hard work; resilience and hunger to achieve his dreams.

What makes this story even more astonishing is that he previously won a Bronze medal at Sochi in 2014 with broken ribs and came back to the top of his career after breaking his femur in early 2016. It just goes to show anything is possible if you are truly passionate about it! You are the only person stopping you from reaching your dreams.

It’s only with Mark’s determination, courage and commitment that he proudly received a Bronze Olympic Medal in Slopestyle at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. Awe-inspiring, right?

I’ve no doubt we will be hearing more of Mark’s success in the future and he has certainly impressed the world with his tenacity and shinning personality.

What’s The Message?

In the words of Mark McMorris, “Enjoy the ride and never take anything for granted.”

Alongside a positive, fun loving approach to life have the mentality of never giving up. Remember, you can do anything if you put your mind to! You’ll be surprised at what you can achieve if you push yourself and step outside your comfort zone. Have the courage to follow your heart and chase your dreams, after all you only get one shot at life and you should spend it doing something you love.

Make time for adventures, travelling and volunteering – they enrich your life and create memories that last forever! Where Will Your Next Adventure Take You?

Loved the winter Olympics, especially the ski and boarder cross – totally mad! Only one ski trip for me this year (I ski mainly in Europe), but next year hope to go State-side again. Happy days!
