If you have 3 hours it’s well worth making a pit stop in Bratislava in Slovakia on your Eastern European travels!
Here are my top 3 recommendations:
1. Visit Bratislava Castle
The castle sits on top of a hill overlooking the city – There is an awesome view of the surrounding area and the Danube River! It’s also worth seeing the impressive statues/architecture up close!
2. Walk around the Old Town
Soak up the atmosphere of this charming, colourful capital by taking a walk in the Old Town. See if you can spot the Man at Work and Napoleon’s statues. Walk through St Michael’s gate which has been there since medieval times and see how far away you are from home on the Kilometre Zero compass on the pavement. Wonder around the markets in the main square, sample local food (potato cakes!) and wonder down the maze of narrow, winding streets.
3. Stay the night
Personally, I would have loved to have spent a bit more time exploring – watch this space! Spending a day or two will give you more time to sight-see properly and soak up the Eastern European charm!
