Budapest was the first stop on my 2016 Euro trip! It was a jam packed 2 days and a great introduction to Eastern Europe. It is a beautiful city with a very relaxed vibe!
My top 5 recommendations are:
1. See the city at night
A stroll down the river during the evening is very pretty(proof below!) See some of the iconic landmarks such as: Parliament, Buda Castle and Chain Bridge lit up.
2. Go on a river Cruise
A relaxed way to sightsee the city from a different angle! See lots of sites along the Buda and Pest side of river and see Margaret Island up close! Sit back, enjoy the breeze and take plenty of snaps!
3. Take in the city views
For breathtaking views of the city walk up the hill to the Citadel which overlooks the city. You will be rewarded with an incredible view! (The Fisherman’s Bastion is also supposed to be good #NotEnoughTime)
Key sights to see : Heroes’ Square, Chain Bridge, Parliament, Buda Castle, Opera house, Synagogue and Basilica. I did a hop on hop off bus tour which helped see the main sights in a day!
A visit to the Great Market Hall is not to be missed! The hall is lined with stalls selling everything from fresh produce to local cuisine to souvenirs and gifts. All you need under one roof and in an impressive building!
Budapest was a great start to my trip and one of my favourite stops in Eastern Europe!
